 California State Finals

Division Overview

4.5 Contender

This weekend contender division is going to be one for the books, with a college player dominance it will be interesting to see which school triumphs. Coming in as the the top dogs Micah Allin and Ethan epp will be a tough team to beat with Micah having a great 3rd place finish over the Calpoly team. Half of that Calpoly team Comes in to fill that Second Spot Cole Sanchez and his Partner Nolan Wynkoop are looking to fight and Serve their way  to the Finals, they both play a lot in Cal Poly and are an excellent rally ball duo, very excited to see these players get some touches this weekend. Another Calpoly team is looking to shine and fight their way into the finals. Austin Gauerke(also reached 4th place finish with Cole Sanchez) and James Lamkin, this team has wicked serves and plays big body defense around the net. We will see what cal poly team proves to be the best. This underdog team can come out making noise Rafi Moldvosky(UCLA) and Arrow Griner(SDSU) will not have the strong chemistry as the other teams but can definitely touch and serve their way out of trouble and be on the lookout for this dark horse team.

4.5 Womens

Everything is heating up in this women's division with only 2 more chances to earn Points toward the State team. No one is safe, everything is on the line.GET HYPED!! Coming in as the one seed Perrin York and Joelle Nguyen will be a hard team to beat, if they can keep their game clean and perrins setting is on point they can pull off this win, says Perrin York. With a lot of even mashups this weekend it's anyone's game to make it into the finals, trailing behind Perrin and Joelle are Alex Buckman/Sebastiani Kim and Mey Helm/Ashley Ortlip. These two teams are not to be taken lightly, Alex and Sebasiani have great chemistry placing in STS events and having a great run in utah Againts Spic Rack. but will that be enough against the hard hitting and serving team of Mey and Ashley, these two ladys always find themselves in the podium picture so it will be interesting how they do against these two top teams. Our darkhorse of the tournament are Malia Sato and Sherry Zhang, with these two women having great finishes in the Queen of the Realm tournament Malia Finishing 3rd and Sherry Placing 5th in the individual Standings. This team is going to be dangerous and unpredictable. Another Dark horse team that can Potentially make the top 4 is $$ KA-CHING $$, this high spirited team has shown they can play against the best and hold their own. Will there team chemistry be enough to make the top 4

5.5 Expert

As the last 2 tournaments of the season come closer the path to the Men's State team becomes more clear, but there are still players fighting their way to be apart on a once and a lifetime journey. Coming in at the one seed with the most Points Schon Siguennza and Josh Fragiacomo are going to be a top contender in this division but will have to prove themselves with the likes of Ryan Oswalt, Matt Ortlip, Jacob Payer, Jason Rhoads, Sam Buckman, and Jacob Martinez. But there is one team that can make a surprise podium like they did in our last event Stanford El grande #2, Dialed Josh Cain and Luke Pennington took 2nd at Stanford and will be looking to make another big appearance here. A team that is coming off a big win from West coast Spike Riverside tournament is Brandon Brown and Matt Ortlip, this team took down Josh Fragiacomo and Andrew Kosche in the Round of 8 and made it to finals to beat Jayson Rhea and Ben Banuelos. You know this team will be ready with Matt never missing a podium and definitely will be eating his overnight Ortlips in preparation, say Perrin York. or will we see one of the more experienced and most chemistry teams Jacob Payer and Sam Buckman are Cal Poly alumni who have won college Nationals together, there's nothing this hard hitting, loud screaming team can do. Another team with a lot of history Jason Rhoads and Andrew Kosche are two players you don't want to be hitting against, be sure to watch out for all their sick rallies. Coming all the way from SB Ryan Oswalt and Archie Powell, these two heavy servers will definitely make big waves through this Expert Division. I Hope Great Britain himself(Archie Powell) will be able to get back to the American Play Style.

4.5 Coed

1 person rains supreme in coed and her name is Karah freaken Hui, she has won all California Roundnet Coed tournaments, Place 1st place in Worlds For Coed and Place 3rd at USA Nationals in coed but will her partner Brandon Brown be up to the challenge with all these Coed mashups. The team that is looking to end Karah reign is Kayla Wu and Ryan Oswalt, these are some of the top players in california and a force to be reckoned with. Another team looking to make this upset, coming out of retirement Jarratt Rouse this man has competed at the highest level when he started playing,  teaming up with Perrin York this team will be looking to take down the queen herself. The last team looking to shake things up is the combination of Seb Kim and Trevor Barbosa, this team will be ready to make plays and serve their way past the competition.
